Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out daily activities. It is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that slowly worsens over time and is caused by brain cell death. It is not 100% known how this destruction process occurs.
One thought of how this occurs is a brain protein fragment called beta-amyloid accumulates in the brain leading to a disruption of communication between brain cells and eventually leads to brain cell death. This is the theory of the potential cause of Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s is a devasting disease and continues to slowly progress over time until a person can no longer care for themselves.
Sadly, there is no known cure for this disease. However, new treatments with CBD oil has been found to possibly slow down the progression of the disease and decrease the process of cellular death.
Neurodegenerative diseases often involve inflammation of the neural tissue, leading to chronic neuronal deterioration. CBD oil works as an anti-inflammatory, therefore allowing the disease process to slow down.
Utilizing CBD oil could be a potential alternative medication to those who suffer from Alzheimer’s.
In addition, CBD oil acts as an antioxidant. The release of reactive oxygen and oxidative stress are both key components to Alzheimer’s disease and are linked to immune inflammation. Oxidative stress is caused by free radical production, which in turn generates inflammation in the body and damages cells.
An antioxidant helps to slow down the production of free radicals and the progression of cellular death. It would help aid in the progression of memory loss and other neurological symptoms which Alzheimer’s patients suffer from.
Alzheimer’s is a very difficult disease to live with for the patient and for family and friends. It can cause severe changes in personality which can be hard to cope with. A once loving, kind person can become mean, cold, and completely seem as if they are a different person.
CBD oil may be worth looking into for a person who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s to help improve their quality of life and an attempt to slow down the progression of this life changing disease.
